Who can take part?

If you are at least 18 years old and have stopped drinking alcohol, or have a desire to stop drinking alcohol, you may be eligible to take part. Click below to fill in an online self-assessment to find out. 

Anaesthetics are widely used in general hospitals. A growing body of research suggests that one particular anaesthetic has promising applications in the treatment of alcohol problems.

This study consists of:

  • Eligiblity screening
  • Telephone support to prepare for treatment
  • Three drug treatment sessions
  • Seven psychological support sessions
  • Follow-up visits at 3, 6, and 12 months after completion of treatment
  • An optional phone interview
  • Optional participation in a peer support group at six months
